Contract termination notice issued to Essel Group for Vengadamangalam WtE plant

Essel Group, the company operating Vengadamangalam WtE plant, has been issued a contract termination notice by the government because of its failure to generate electricity from the plant, as reported by The New Indian Express. Essel Group claimed that an inability to reach a power tariff agreement with the State Electricity Regulation Commission had led to the drop in electricity generation from the plant. The plant treats waste from Sembakkam, Pallavaram and Tambaram municipalities, and was constructed to generate 3 MW from processing 96,000 tonnes of waste annually.
