The municipality of Kochi may have to buy the electricity produced at the planned Brahmapuram WtE plant. At present, two companies are bidding for the operation of the plant under a BOT contract. However, Kochi officials are of the opinion that the state government of Kerala should pay for the power. Additionally, the municipality may face further costs in the form of a fine, in case it cannot provide enough fuel for the 300 tpd WtE plant (see also issue 2014-21). Only 165 tons of waste are produced in Kochi per day, according to The Hindu.
