The Government of Chennai, Tamil Nadu has now set aside INR 5,259.1 crores for the construction of WtE plants at the Kodungaiyur and Perungudi dumpsites. According to The Times of India, the plants will be implemented through private-public partnerships over 5 years with a design-build-operate-and-transfer (DBOT) model. Bidders have been invited for collection and transportation of waste from eight zones in the municipality. As reported earlier, each of the plants will have an operational capacity of 880,000 tonnes of waste per year for generating 32 MW of electricity.
