The Indian Ministry of Petroleum and Natural Gas has announced the introduction of a blending scheme for biogas. Under this, compressed biogas (CBG) should be mixed with natural gas, starting at 1% in April 2025 in the automotive and household sectors.

The share of CBG will then increase to 5% in 2028. The scheme is intended to promote investments in biogas plants and reduce import costs of natural gas. India aims for the installation of 750 CBG plants by 2028/2029, corresponding to an investment of INR 375 billion (EUR 4.1 billion).
