The Kerala High Court has appointed a three-member panel to monitor the implementation of a three-tier approach to waste management in Kerala. The Court has also warned that in the first phase, the police will not intervene. Still, if the state machinery fails, then the police will be roped in. The Court gave the state government the time to develop proposals for holistic waste management.

The court will take up the matter again on April 3 and warned the state government of action if its conduct is not proactive, reports Mathrubhumi. The Kerala HC has been closely monitoring the situation following the Brahmapuram fire.
