The Chandigarh Municipal Corporation has challenged the payment of tipping fees to the Jaypee garbage plant in a filed petition, as Tribune India reported. The Municipality (MC) stated that the payment is not part of the signed Memorandum of Understanding (MoU). Earlier in July 2017, NGT directed the MC to pay a tipping fee of EUR 6 per ton to the Jaypee plant, while the company accepts to process 450 tpd of waste. The Municipal Corporation requested for the return of fees already paid to the company. After termination of contract with Jaypee, the municipal cooperation is now seeking for a Waste-to-Energy company that will utilise the RDF produced in the plant. Recent plans to have a Mohali-based company, Mars Enviotech, on board have failed. The MC wants to operate the plant at zero costs for itself.
