The Niti Aayog has released policy guidelines to help promote behaviour change among stakeholders towards waste segregation at source (WSS). Titled Promoting Behavior Change for Supporting Waste Segregation at Source, these guidelines are intended for use by policy planners, field implementors and others to promote behaviour change towards source segregation at the individual level, as well as households and institutions.
Using insights from behavioural field studies, the report also discusses barriers to WSS including weak markets for segregated waste, limits in ULB capacities, unintuitive product, packaging and dustbin design, fractured IEC messaging practices and socio-cultural factors impacting WSS.
The NITI Aayog also makes policy recommendations to address these issues.
