Operator of Chennai AD plant receives termination notice

According to the Deccan Chronicle, private operating company Ramky Enviro Engineers Ltd has received a termination notice from the Koyambedu market administration for failing to maintain operation of the biogas plant located at the Koyambedu market in Chennai, Tamil Nadu. Reportedly, the plant is mainly dormant since Ramky started operation in 2009, forcing the traders to leave their waste in the open. According to the source, the plant was constructed by the Chennai Metropolitan Development Authority (CMDA) in 2006, has a capacity of 30 to 40 tpd of waste from the market and cost INR 80 million (EUR 971,480). According to another source, CMDA had already penalised the firm INR 2.5 million (EUR 303,587) in 2017 for mishandling of the plant.
